Plasma IQ is particularly effective for the upper and lower eyelids, crow’s feet, the area beneath the eyes, forehead lines, smile lines, and skin laxity around the mouth and chin. It can also address acne scars and areas of general skin laxity on the face and neck. The precision of the device makes it especially well suited for delicate areas where other energy treatments are less accurate — the upper eyelid in particular, where few non-surgical options exist.

The device creates plasma energy between its tip and the skin’s surface, delivering controlled microbeams that create tiny, precise injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s natural healing process — stimulating collagen and elastin production and causing the skin to contract and tighten over the following weeks. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to keep you comfortable. During the procedure you may feel a warm sensation as the device works across the treatment area. The small carbon crusts that form afterward are part of the healing process and resolve within about a week.

Plan for five to seven days of visible recovery. The carbon crusts that form in the treated area are the most noticeable aspect — they’re small and dot-like rather than dramatic, but they’re visible and the skin will be red and sensitive during healing. Most patients are comfortable going about normal activity during this period while keeping the area clean and protected with SPF. Makeup can generally be worn over the area once the crusts have fully resolved. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions before you leave.

Many patients see meaningful improvement from a single session, and for mild to moderate concerns one treatment may be sufficient. More significant laxity or deeper concerns typically benefit from a series of two to three sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart to allow for full healing between treatments. Your provider will assess your skin at consultation and give you a realistic recommendation based on your specific concerns and goals.

Plasma IQ requires careful consideration for patients with darker skin tones due to the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — changes in pigmentation that can occur as the skin heals. It is not recommended for patients with very dark complexions without a thorough consultation and assessment. Your provider will evaluate your skin tone and history carefully before recommending treatment, and will be transparent about whether Plasma IQ is the right fit for your skin. For patients with mild to moderate upper eyelid hooding or lower lid laxity, Plasma IQ can deliver noticeable improvement without surgery, anesthesia, or surgical recovery time. The results are not equivalent to what a surgeon can achieve for patients with significant excess skin — and we’ll always be honest about that distinction. But for patients who aren’t surgical candidates, aren’t ready for surgery, or want meaningful improvement without that level of intervention, Plasma IQ offers a compelling non-surgical path.
