Dynamics of Dysport and Botox
Dysport and Botox: Sharing the Essence of Botulinum Toxin
Type A
Derived from botulinum toxin type A, both Dysport and Botox operate with a common mechanism: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) to prevent muscle contraction, preserving the desired aesthetic effect. It’s crucial to note that while their actions align, the dosage of Dysport is distinct and cannot be equated to other botulinum toxin products previously used.
Botox or Dysport — How Do I Choose?
One of the most common questions we hear is: what’s the difference, and which one is right for me?
Both are botulinum toxin type A. Both work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles. The results look the same to the outside world. The difference is in the formulation — Dysport has a slightly smaller molecule, which means it can diffuse a bit more and may work faster for some patients. Botox tends to stay more localized, which can be an advantage in areas where precision is everything.
At Fountain, we don’t have a preference — we have a recommendation based on you. Your facial anatomy, the areas you want to treat, and your history with injectables all factor into which product makes sense. If you’ve tried one and weren’t thrilled with the results, that’s actually useful information and a great place to start the conversation.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Botox and Dysport Cosmetic Treatments
Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, here’s how a typical Neurotox appointment flows at Fountain:
Before: We’ll talk through your goals, review your facial anatomy, and make a treatment plan together. There’s no pressure to treat every line — the goal is a result that looks like you, refreshed.
During: The injections themselves take about 15–20 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation as a small pinch. We use fine-gauge needles and take our time — rushing this step is how you get uneven results.
After: You can return to normal activity immediately. You’ll start to see movement in 2–5 days, with full results visible by day 14. We ask that you avoid lying down for four hours post-treatment and skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
Results typically last 3–4 months. Over time, many patients find they need less product as the treated muscles become less active — though that varies by individual.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know how many units I'll need?
There’s no universal answer — unit counts depend on the area being treated, the strength of your muscles, and the look you’re going for. Forehead lines, crow’s feet, and the glabella (the “11s” between your brows) all have different typical ranges. At your consultation, we’ll walk through realistic expectations so there are no surprises at checkout.
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
Yes — and that’s actually the goal. Properly placed neurotox relaxes the muscle without eliminating movement. The “frozen” look comes from overtreatment, not from the product itself. Our approach is conservative by default; it’s much easier to add than to undo.
How long before a big event should I book?
We recommend at least two weeks before anything you’re dressing for. Results take up to 14 days to fully settle, and while touch-ups are always available, you want time on your side.
Is there anyone who shouldn't get Neurotox?
Botox and Dysport are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it’s not appropriate for patients with certain neuromuscular conditions. If you’re on blood thinners, let us know — bruising is more likely, though not a reason to avoid treatment entirely. We’ll always review your health history before we treat.
What if I don't love my results?
Results typically wear off within 3–4 months, so nothing is permanent. If something feels off before then — asymmetry, an area that didn’t respond as expected — reach out. We see touch-ups as part of the service, not an extra step.
How is Fountain different from getting injections at a chain or a deal-of-the-day offer?
Neurotox is only as good as the person placing it. Placement decisions — depth, dose, muscle targeting — require genuine anatomical knowledge and a practiced eye. At Fountain, injectables aren’t a side service. They’re the core of what we do, and every appointment reflects that.
