Revolutionizing your Skin
Limelight IPL Treatment
At Fountain, we proudly offer the Limelight IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment, a cutting-edge solution designed to improve the appearance of your skin by addressing a variety of concerns. This non-invasive procedure effectively targets pigmentation issues, vascular lesions, and overall skin tone, helping you achieve a clearer, more youthful complexion.
What It Does
- The Limelight IPL treatment is effective for:
- Reducing sunspots and age spots
- Minimizing redness and rosacea
- Improving skin tone and texture
- Diminishing fine lines
- Treating visible veins and broken capillaries
By addressing these concerns, Limelight IPL enhances the overall appearance of your skin, leaving you with a more radiant and even complexion.
How It Works
IPL utilizes a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to penetrate the skin at varying depths. The treatment targets melanin (the pigment responsible for dark spots) and hemoglobin (the pigment in red blood cells), effectively breaking down these pigments without damaging surrounding tissue.
During the treatment, a handheld device is used to deliver light pulses to the affected areas. Clients often describe the sensation as a mild warming or snapping feeling. Each session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Ideal Candidates
IPL is suitable for a variety of skin types and tones. Ideal candidates include individuals who:
- Want to reduce the appearance of sun damage or age spots
- Experience redness or rosacea
- Have uneven skin tone or texture
- Seek to improve overall skin clarity and luminosity
During your consultation, our experienced providers will assess your skin and discuss your specific concerns to determine if Limelight IPL is the right choice for you.

Before & After
Preparing for your laser treatment
To ensure optimal results and minimize risks, follow these preparation guidelines:
Avoid Sun Exposure: Limit sun exposure for at least two weeks before your treatment. This helps reduce the risk of complications and enhances treatment effectiveness.
No Tanning Products: Refrain from using tanning beds or self-tanning products in the weeks leading up to your session.
Avoid Certain Medications: Consult with your provider about any medications you may be taking, particularly blood thinners or anti-inflammatory drugs. At Fountain, our laser provider has over 5 years of experience in the field and has trained at the National Laser Institute. You can trust that your treatment will be conducted with the highest level of expertise and care.
Aftercare Instructions
Post-treatment care is essential for achieving the best results. Here are some key steps:
Sun Protection: Use broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. This is crucial for maintaining results and preventing pigmentation changes.
Avoid Heat: Refrain from hot showers, saunas, or strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after your treatment to minimize irritation.
Follow-Up Care: Follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by your laser technician, and attend follow-up appointments as necessary to monitor your progress.
What to Expect with IPL
IPL is one of the most effective treatments for sun damage, redness, and uneven skin tone — and one of the most misunderstood in terms of what the process actually looks like. Knowing what’s coming makes the experience significantly better.
Before: Avoid sun exposure and tanning products for at least two weeks before your appointment. Sun-kissed skin has more active pigment in the surface layers, which increases the risk of unwanted reactions and reduces how precisely the treatment can target the concerns underneath. Come with a clean face and no makeup.
During: The handheld IPL device delivers pulses of broad-spectrum light to the treatment area. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild snap or warmth — similar to a rubber band against the skin. Sessions typically run 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area being treated. The face and neck together take about an hour. Most patients find it very manageable.
Immediately after: Your skin will look flushed and feel warm — similar to a mild sunburn. This typically settles within a few hours. If pigmentation is being treated, you’ll notice something over the following days that surprises many first-time patients: the brown spots and sun damage you came in to address will temporarily get darker before they fade. This is the treatment working exactly as it should. The light has targeted the melanin in those spots, causing them to rise to the surface before the body clears them. They’ll flake away naturally over the following one to two weeks, leaving clearer skin underneath. Knowing this is coming makes it much easier to live through.
Results timeline: Initial improvement in redness and overall tone is often visible within a week or two. Pigmentation results develop as the darkened spots clear over the following weeks. Most patients see their best results two to four weeks after treatment, with continued improvement if undergoing a series.
About the series: A single IPL session delivers noticeable results, and many patients see meaningful improvement after one treatment. For more significant sun damage, persistent redness, or rosacea, a series of three sessions is recommended — Fountain offers a package of three at $1,400, a meaningful saving over individual sessions. Your provider will recommend the right approach at your consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is IPL the same as a laser?
Not technically — and the distinction matters. Lasers deliver a single focused wavelength of light. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths simultaneously, which allows it to target multiple concerns — pigmentation and vascular issues — in the same treatment. In practice, patients often use “IPL laser” as shorthand, and that’s fine. What matters is that IPL is a well-established, non-ablative treatment that works on the surface without breaking the skin, making it effective for a wide range of pigmentation and redness concerns with minimal downtime.
What skin concerns does IPL treat?
IPL is particularly effective for sun damage and age spots, redness and rosacea, broken capillaries and visible vessels, uneven skin tone and texture, and general dullness from accumulated sun exposure. It targets melanin (the pigment responsible for dark spots) and hemoglobin (the pigment in red blood cells) — which is why it addresses both pigmentation and vascular concerns in a single treatment. If your primary concern is skin laxity, fine lines, or acne scarring, Laser Genesis or microneedling may be a better fit — your provider will help you determine the right treatment at consultation.
Why do my brown spots look darker after treatment?
This is the most common concern patients have after their first IPL session — and it’s actually a sign the treatment is working. IPL heats the melanin in sun damage and age spots, causing those cells to rise to the surface and temporarily darken before the body clears them naturally. This process takes one to two weeks. The spots will flake away on their own, revealing clearer skin underneath. Avoid picking or scrubbing the treated area during this phase — let the skin do its job.
Is there any downtime?
IPL is considered a no-downtime treatment in the sense that most patients return to normal activity immediately. You’ll want to keep makeup and harsh products off the skin for the first 24 hours, and the temporary darkening of pigmented spots means you may prefer to stay low-key socially for the week or so while that process resolves. SPF is non-negotiable after treatment. Beyond that, there’s nothing that prevents you from going about your normal life.
How many sessions will I need?
One session delivers visible improvement for most patients — particularly for isolated sun spots or mild redness. For more significant sun damage, persistent rosacea, or diffuse redness across the face, a series of three sessions spaced three to four weeks apart is the recommended protocol. Fountain’s package of three sessions at $1,400 reflects that recommendation and makes the full series financially straightforward. Your provider will give you a specific recommendation at your consultation based on the severity of your concerns.
Can IPL be used on all skin types?
IPL works best on patients with lighter skin tones and is not recommended for very dark complexions — the broad-spectrum light targets pigment, and darker skin tones carry more melanin in the surface layers, which increases the risk of unwanted pigment changes. Patients with active tans or recent sun exposure should also wait before treatment for the same reason. If you have a medium or olive complexion, your provider will assess your skin carefully at consultation and advise whether IPL or an alternative treatment is the better fit.
